Specialty Homecare Lifeline and The Academy Provide GoSafe Medical Alerts to All Residents in Assisted Living
(Spokane, WA)– Specialty Homecare Lifeline was selected by The Academy Assisted Living to provide Philips GoSafe, the latest in mobile personal emergency response systems(mPERS), in order to have a mobile solution for residents or caregivers to call for help no matter where they are.
Specialty Homecare Lifeline is one of the nation’s leading TeleCare agency offering the products of Philips Healthcare. The Philips GoSafe pendant features the power of up to six location technologies, giving seniors the assurance to get up and go while being protected by the 24/7, U.S.- based emergency call response center which protects more seniors than any other medical alert service. Philips is the only mobile personal emergency response system (mPERS) to utilize this "hybrid" locating approach, which allows response center associates to locate seniors in need of assistance even in areas where GPS may not be available, such as indoors or in a parking garage.
“The expectation of our customers is to be able to call for help no matter where they are, “said Mark Strahl co-owner of Specialty Homecare Lifeline. “When my wife Tyice and I were certified on the Philips GoSafe system, we were impressed not only with the technology but the clarity of the voice of the Philips Respond Associate coming through the pendant. The fact that a simple waterproof help button will work at home, in the park, at church, or where ever our customer is in the community sets a new standard for personal safety.”
GoSafe's built-in AutoAlert fall detection technology can automatically call for help if it detects a fall, providing protection even if the senior is unable to call on their own. Whether the wearer experiences a fall, a health emergency, or even a minor assistance need such as being locked outside of their house, GoSafe enables help to arrive quickly when and where it is needed.
“This was an easy decision to make,” said Mark Scroggins the General Manager of The Academy, a Merrill Garden Community. “Instead of relying on pull cords, GoSafe pendants give our residents and staff a huge peace of mind knowing that when a fall or an emergency occurs, help will arrive in a timely manner. Faster response times allows for better outcomes for our residents.”
The GoSafe system utilizes an in-home communicator to optimize in-home performance, and the GoSafe pendant can be charged while worn, providing continuous protection for the wearer. GoSafe's advanced technology is delivered in an intuitive, user-friendly design that was recognized in 2014 with an iF Gold Product Award and Red Dot Product Design Award. Joining Lifeline with AutoAlert and the HomeSafe Wireless Communicator, GoSafe is the latest in Philips Lifeline’s suite of solutions designed to empower seniors to age safely and independently while providing their families with peace of mind. Celebrating more than 40years of delivering meaningful innovations for supporting senior safety, health and connectedness, the company is the nation’s first medical alert service and has served more than 7 million people since its inception.

Specialty Homecare Lifeline owner Mark Strahl explains, “What is exciting about building our Complete Care Network is that we are using the most cutting edge technology in areas of Medication Adherence (PMD) and Medical Alert (PERS) to allow for cloud enabled reporting and analytics. These reports provide our subscribers and those in their continuum of care to make objective health care decisions. Specialty Homecare Lifeline, Inc. awarded area distributorship for StoveTop FireStop – America’s leading automatic fire suppression devices.
Williams-Pyro Inc is a Dallas-FortWorth manufacturer who produces StoveTop FireStop automatic fire suppression devices for range hoods and microwave units above the kitchen range.
(Spokane, WA) – Specialty Homecare Lifeline Inc., continues to set the standard for companies that want to provide the most cutting edge technology for those living Independently. On the heels of having been recognized as one of the top Philips TeleCare programs in the nation, owners Mark and Tyice Strahl have been awarded the area distributorship for StoveTop FireStop which is America’s leading automatic fire suppression devices designed for home use.
“Our focus continues to be to provide innovative solutions for those who strive to live Independently,” says Mark Strahl. “Kitchen fires continue to be a real threat to our vulnerable adult community and we have been looking for an inexpensive solution that is easy to install yet effective. After researching the company, watching the video on how the product operates, then seeing newscast after newscast touting how StoveTop FireStop saved lives, Ty and I were convinced to get involved. Our focus now is to find area vendors and partners to help get this wonderful tool into the community to reduce home fires. This will protect the lives and property not only of our most vulnerable, but all families that have a stove in the home.”
Cooking equipment results in an annual average of:
- 120,000 reported residential fires and 12,344,000 (55.3%) unreported home fires per year, which is an average of more than
one kitchen fire for every eight occupied housing units per year - 68% of those fires caused by cooking
- 3,660 civilian injuries
- 220 deaths
- $1.2 Billion in property damage each year in multifamily dwellings
SOURCES: NFPA, FEMA, US FIRE ADMINISTRATION
Many people panic at the onset of a stovetop fire and attempt to move the burning pan, which often leads to burns and major
injury. Additionally, pouring water onto a grease fire can cause the fire to spread. Automatic fire suppression is the first line of defense against stovetop fires, protecting residents from injuries.

Specialty Homecare Lifeline RECOGNIZED AS THE TOP PHILIPS TELECARE PROGRAM IN THE NATION. NEW HEALTH CARE MODEL IS GROUND BREAKING.
Philips TeleCare is a combination of the Personal Medication Dispenser (PMD) and Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) which offers Lifeline with AutoAlert service.
(Spokane, WA) – On top of celebrating their 5th year as owners of Specialty Homecare Lifeline, Mark and Tyice Strahl have been recognized as one of the top Philips TeleCare programs in the nation. Mark and Tyice Strahl have owned and operated Specialty Homecare Lifeline since June 2008 offering Philips TeleCare service, which has more than 3,000 programs nation wide and provides service to more than 700,000 subscribers. Mark and Tyice Strahl have been awarded the Lifeline Academy Award the last 2 years for being in the top 10% of all programs. Specialty Homecare Lifeline is recognized for developing and launching a ground breaking new health care model in July 2012, referred to as the TeleCare Suite Pro. The TeleCare Suite Pro is a blend of TeleCare products along with direct pharmacy support and health care agency assistance. The TeleCare Suite Pro is a mobilized platform that allows health care agencies and families to have instant awareness through effective communication in the areas of Medication Adherence and Personal Safety & Security based on demonstrative data. This allows for objective health care decisions to be made based on a subscriber’s needs and thus maximizes their wealth and ability to be Independent. This mutli-tiered, multidisciplinary approach slashes health care costs as much as 80% while improving outcomes. Specialty Homecare Lifeline was asked in 2013 to become a Philips Lifeline Advisory Board member, which is only open to 11 programs nationally, to have direct input in product development.
“Our focus is to provide innovative solutions for those who are trying to live Independently,” says Mark Strahl the Program Manager. “We realize that the effects of the financial meltdown have had a devastating effect on our vulnerable adult community. Here in Spokane, the Spokane Regional Health District has numbers that reflect an over 80% increase in mortality rates for seniors due to falls in the past 5 years, while at the same time an almost 50% decline in Emergency Department visits. Our elders are afraid to reach out for help because of financial constraints and so when intervention occurs it is often too late and/or very costly. The challenge is that if the government(s) were to make the right decisions in financial policies, and that is a whole other debate, you still are looking at another 5 to 7 years for things to financially deleverage. That mean for our elders, their current financial wealth is not going to change any time soon and their Independence is based upon it.”
“Our TeleCare Suite Pro focuses on the 3 Pillars of Independent Living; Medication Adherence, Personal Safety & Security, and Assisted Daily Living Tasks (ADL’S). We developed our proprietary medication compliant packaging 5 years ago in order to have pharmacies able to directly support PMD subscribers. This has allowed the caregivers of health care agencies to load the PMD with the dispense cups, which reduces operational costs while increasing the pool of potential subscribers. Our innovative mobilized web platform allows these agencies to be set up in an administrative role to enhance their direct ADL support efforts for better outcomes. This collaboration allows for a starting point for a complete care program around $400 per month rather than the traditional price of $1,600-$2,000 per month. We provide elders a strong living environment based on the 3 Pillars of Independent Living to maximize their wealth by limiting costs to specific needs, rather than the traditional health care model that forces individuals to randomly spend money on direct care in hopes of achieving subjective results.”

News Release
Mark & Tyice Strahl owners of Specialty Homecare Lifeline of Spokane, Win National Award for Helping Seniors
Spokane, WA June 1, 2012 –
Mark and Tyice Strahl are the recipient of the prestigious 2011 ExceptionalAward from Philips Lifeline. Mark and Tyice Strahl are owners of Specialty Homecare Lifeline and were presented this award for the work they conduct on behalf of seniors in the community. Only the top 1% of all individuals involved with running a Philips Lifeline program are recognized with this award. Philips Lifeline service is offered by more than 3,000 programs and provides service to more than 700,000 subscribers. Winners must exhibit exceptional qualities, including having an exceptional growth mindset and being an active advocate for seniors in their community. This is a back to back accomplishment for Mark and Tyice Strahl as they earned the 2010 Exceptional Award the previous year.
Philips Lifeline is the leading TeleCare agency providing monitored medication dispensing (PMD) and medical alert service (PERS), which targets primary chronic illness management
through medication adherence for seniors while allowing access to help in the event of an emergency or fall to help at the push of a button. Since 2008, Specialty Homecare Lifeline has been offering seniors the Philips Lifeline TeleCare that gives them the confidence to continue to live independently at home.
Through the Strahl’s tireless efforts and by educating seniors and professional caregivers in the community, Specialty Homecare Lifeline has been able to grow its subscriber base allowing it to serve over 1,300 seniors in the Inland Empire. Specialty Homecare Lifeline’s commitment to quick courteous service and 25 years of experience in the health care field have earned the trust of families and healthcare professionals.
“To be recognized 2 years in a row is amazing,” said Mark Strahl. “We continue to be blessed with the support of our community in our efforts to help our seniors. Everyone is looking for cost effective solutions for those trying to live Independently. The launch of our TeleCare Suite last month in May directly addresses the high acuity of our seniors in the community.
The TeleCare Suite uses technology to lower health care cost for providers and families, increases positive outcomes, and lowers the acuity of our seniors. Our TeleCare Suite is the first of its kind in the nation to provide immediate access to the information streams derived from the Philips Lifeline units through our redesigned mobile web based platforms. This allows health care decisions to be made by those in the continuum of care objectively using demonstrative data through effective communication. We are able to put information at a
person’s finger tips through their smart phone or I Pad while in the field.”
“Our PMD program is the first in the nation that directly allows the pharmacy to become an active partner in the continuum of care for those living Independently. We worked the last 4 years with community pharmacies, state agencies, and local manufacturers to develop and implement complaint medication packaging to support the PMD. Our compliant packaging allows a pharmacy to fill and deliver the medications in labeled carriers to home sites in order for caregivers to load the prefilled dispense cups into the PMD. There is no other medication dispensing device currently on the market that can offer this. The PMD has a 98.1% compliant average which goes right after the biggest problem in Independently Living, medication adherence. When a person takes the right pills, at the right time, all the time, then everything else will fall into place.”
